Overview

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Chandpur Science and Technology University (CSTU) is a cornerstone of the university’s vision to advance science and technology education in Bangladesh. Since its establishment in 2020 and the commencement of academic activities in the 2021-22 session, the department has been at the forefront of cultivating skilled professionals equipped to meet the demands of an increasingly digital world. The B.Sc. Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded education in theoretical foundations, practical applications, and cutting-edge technologies.  


Academic Excellence and Curriculum Design  

The CSE program spans four years and is meticulously crafted to combine rigorous academic content with hands-on experience, ensuring students are prepared for both advanced studies and immediate industry involvement. The curriculum consists of 160 credits distributed over eight semesters, incorporating core courses, advanced electives, and extensive sessional work.  


Key features of the Curriculum

  • First Year: Establishing a solid foundation through courses in structured programming, computer fundamentals, electrical engineering, physics, and mathematics. This phase introduces students to the basics of engineering and computing, setting the stage for more advanced topics.  
  • Second Year: Advancing into core subjects like data structures, digital logic design, database management systems, and mobile application development, combined with applied mathematics. These courses prepare students to tackle practical challenges in computing.  
  • Third Year: Expanding knowledge in critical areas such as operating systems, computer networks, software engineering, compiler design, and microprocessor systems. Students also gain practical experience through sessional courses and project work.  
  • Fourth Year: Providing specialization opportunities in areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and advanced electives, including IoT, robotics, big data analytics, and bioinformatics. The final year also emphasizes professional readiness through industrial training, research projects, and thesis work.  


Practical Learning and Innovation Opportunities  

The program places significant emphasis on practical experience. Each semester includes sessional courses to complement theoretical learning, offering students extensive exposure to laboratory environments, collaborative projects, and problem-solving scenarios. The department actively encourages innovation by incorporating real-world challenges into coursework, promoting research initiatives, and facilitating industry-academia collaboration.  


Current Status and Growth  

The CSE department currently houses 270 students across 3 running batches, with an annual intake of 30 students. This carefully managed growth ensures personalized attention and a high standard of education. Despite its relatively recent inception, the department is rapidly evolving, supported by committed faculty, modern facilities, and an engaging learning environment.  


With its comprehensive curriculum, focus on innovation, and commitment to excellence, the CSE department at CSTU is paving the way for future leaders in computing and technology. As the department continues to grow, it aspires to establish itself as a leading center for computer science education, research, and innovation in the region.
